Round 17
Colts – Taking on Powerhouse Bentleigh this week the boys turned up ready to go. For three ¼’s we were able to match them and we went into three ¼ time with a slight margin and some real believe. To Bentleigh’s credit they clicked into gear in the last quarter and pulled away to record a 4 goal win. One thing we did learn is that we are not just making the numbers up in the finals and given a bit of luck with injuries we are going to be a dangerous side for anyone. Will Mason was terrific down back, little Diggers was outstanding and continues to improve and James Gascard made his presence felt with his attack on the ball and man. Seconds – Again Doggy was able to weave his magic on the phones and come up with 20 players, the highlight being the return of club legend Dunks. To Doveton’s credit they were able to make us really work for the four points, however with Dunks running amuk up forward and big Tommy Davis clunking everything we were able to record a good win. Gizz found some form, apparently had 53 touches, by late Sunday afternoon that number had grown to beyond 60. Chicken Nixon relished the open spaces on the wing and JP did what JP does best. Seniors – Terrible first half, in saying that Doveton were excellent in the first half, much better in the second half. Down at half time the boys responded and were much better the second half, more pressure on the opposition and we began to force turnovers to give us the repeat inside 50’s we need to run away 8 goal winners in the end. Diggers and Harro were outstanding all day down back as was Shedders in the middle, Pinko’s return to the side was capped off with 4 goals from as many opportunities and along with Batty and Barn proved to be a handful for Doveton in the second half. Kezza was again terrific in the ruck and down back. All we can do from here on in is keep winning and see what happens
