Round 13 Update
COLTS – Up against Oakleigh Districts we were able to get the enough players to field a full side which was a great start given all the injuries we have currently. We were competitive early with them and had the same amount of scoring shots early. Again injuries forced us to match several changes, most notably Carl Osker – Beeeeer going to full forward with what appeared to be a serious hamstring tear, great effort to actually stay out on the ground and compete. In the end Oakleigh ran away comfortable winners and fully deserved their win, for us our better players were little Bunna again, the Smiths both Troy and Corey, big Gunda and little Diggers. Need to get out on the track this week and get ourselves back into form this week. Seconds – We were unsure of numbers on Thursday night due to our ever growing injury list, as of Saturday at 11.25 we had enough to drop the senior coach just prior to the warm up. Once we introduced ourselves to each other it was time to get the game underway. The 6 people who had heard the rumour Friday night that Wally Bennett was making a comeback didn’t have to wait long to see him burst into action. After receiving a free kick deep in the pocket he went back and calmly check sided it through the big sticks. Again, we battled hard all day, however we were always going to be up against the run and carry from Oakleigh. It was fair to say we as a group looked as if we have trained off a little bit. Let’s just say it was lucky we had 8 XXXL spare jumpers in the kit. To all that played well done as you never gave up, the highlight of the day was the return of club legend Wally Bennett, who slotted 3 very classy goals for the day. Great effort boys, a win is not fair away. SENIORS – After a forgettable effort last week against Keysborough we needed to show more spirit and fight against top side Oakleigh. To the boy’s credit the effort was much better especially in the first half. We did drop off in the second half, although the effort overall was a move in the right direction. Better players for the day were Nicko, Johnsy, Andy Gray, Shedders and Scott Fiora. Need a good week on the track as this week’s game is a must win against Caulfield.
