Round 15
Colts – Up against Cheltenham we probably put in our worst performance of the year. We got off to a slow start and just couldn’t get back into the game. We need to regroup and get on the training track to recapture our early season form. Again Bunna was good all day, along with Gunda who was dominate around the ground with some telling grabs. On a positive it was great to see Bunna awarded for his outstanding for with the Shooting Star nomination from Round 14 and also Corey Smith’s debut in the seniors this week. Let’s regroup and bounce back this week. Seconds – A much younger list this week with the exception of a couple of old blokes. The first half was an arm wrestle and it is fair to say the game wasn’t going to be one for the SFL archive collection, both teams struggled to enter their respective forward 50’s little more actually score. The second half opened up a bit with the Hammers kicking away late to record 2 wins on the trot. Better players for the day were Temps, JP (on one leg), little Al and Caffa in his duties as waterboy. Seniors – Danger game after coming off a good win last week. We made a solid if not spectacular start to the game( although Scooters mark in the 1st quarter was a highlight – watch Almost Footy Legends in the coming weeks if you missed it) – we were able to get a little break at ¼ time due to our overall workrate at stoppages and defensive pressure. After ¼ time we started to get on top in the midfield through the work of Kezza in the ruck and up forward due to the likes of Feather & Jake Timms. Unfortunately we lost Azz Hutchins to a serious back injury just prior to half time, we wish him all the best in his recovery. A lapse at the start of the third ¼ was the only let down for the day in what was a terrific win, better players for the day were Sheddars, Toddy, Kezza and Scotty who slotted through 6 special goals again, congrats to Corey Smith on his senior debut for the Hammers, hopefully another couple of hundred games in the Hammers jumper. Again, it was great to see yesterday’s greats in the rooms singing the theme song, no doubt a few were well oiled and in great voice.
